darkness means conflict with community preferences for jail site! Click for details.

stop the downtown jail!

"There's still time to stop the project" according to Frank Draxler, Eau Claire City-County purchasing director, and project manager (source)

How?
*The County Board can still choose from other locations, in fact, a downtown jail was NOT the first recommedation from the County's own study.
*The Eau Claire City Council can reject the zoning change request from the County.
*The City Council can also reject the change in the Comprehensive Plan.

This is NOT an "eleventh hour" effort.
Citizens and County Board Supervisors have been speaking out and presenting alternatives for years. At the "community advisory meeting” held at Lakeshore School last year, citizens were told that the decision had, in fact, already been made. Is that how citizens provide input? Also last year, 1,000 Eau Claire County residents signed a petition against the downtown jail. Opposition is not new.

Governor Doyle

"Wisconsin's rivers, lakes and streams are among our greatest assets. Revitalizing our waterfronts helps build strong local economies by attracting new business, raising land values and drawing locals and tourists to a community. The Wisconsin Waterfront initiative will help communities protect and develop their waterfronts so they can be enjoyed by all for many years to come." source
